A Question For The Blogsophere

Mason and I were discussing the fact that his twenty-two year old sister-in-law is dating a guy almost ten years older than her. I didn't think this was a big deal. If the twenty-two year old is mature and the guy she is dating is open cool with the younger person, why not. Then he pointed out that while the age difference is not an issue at 30-40 or 40-50, once the ages start advancing, it will become a huge issue. The difference between 60 and 70 can be huge.

So what do you think, what is an exceptable age difference? Is ten too much?

Ten is a lot, but it's not that bad, IMHO. But, ten would be very near some sort of not-that-bad limit, though. Where do you draw the line? I guess it just really depends on the people involved.

I don't see the problem with it. I've dated a guy 10 years older than me, and we didn't have any age-related issues.

statistically, they may be doomed. but only because she's in her early 20's. if she was even 25 or 26, they'd have a better shot. those few years make a difference...so i've heard.

but that is a generalization and may not apply to these people. you can't control who you like, so they may as well give it a shot.

Ten is do-able. I've always thought it worked backwards. Ten years is big when you're 11 years old and dating a baby in diapers. But 33 and 23...that works.

But maybe it goes down again like a bell curve of relationships. You do have to deal with diapers again at the end of the cycle.

So they stay together until one of them is in diapers. There you go.

Five years difference is also really bad too, in my opinion. Just totally out of synch. You know. Like, say, 28 and 33 would never work out. Nope. Not in a million years. Like night and day. Or oil and water. Or Jubilee and Wolverine. Just never work...
